Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

What is Scitara DLX?

Scitara DLX (Digital Lab Exchange) is a cloud-based, vendor-agnostic integration platform purpose-built for scientific laboratories. DLX connects instruments, applications, and data sources into a unified digital environment – automating workflows, preserving data integrity, and readying data for downstream AI or applications.

Which types of labs use DLX?

DLX can suit any lab environment: research, development, QC and release labs, diagnostics, bioprocessing and manufacturing, and analytical labs.

Can I try DLX before committing?

Yes. Scitara offers structured demo sessions, scoped pilot engagements, and proof-of-concept programs so you can validate DLX against your specific instruments and workflows before a full roll-out.

How long does implementation take?

Pilot implementations typically complete in a few weeks, depending on instrument count and workflow complexity. Full enterprise rollouts are scoped collaboratively with Scitara’s implementation team during an initial discovery phase, so you get a realistic timeline from “start.”

Integrations & connectivity

Can DLX integrate with legacy or non-networked instruments?

Yes. DLX supports the full spectrum of lab equipment — from modern networked instruments to legacy and non-networked devices — ensuring no instrument is left outside your digital ecosystem, regardless of age or connectivity.

What systems and data sources can DLX connect to?

DLX provides a rich connector library spanning:

  • Networked laboratory instruments and devices
  • On-premises application systems including LIMS, ELN, and CDS
  • Enterprise platforms like ERP, data lakehouses, O365
  • Cloud services and REST APIs

The platform is vendor-agnostic by design – built to integrate what you already have, not replace it.

Which vendors and partners does Scitara work with?
Scitara’s partner ecosystem spans strategic alliances, connected technology integrations, and delivery services.

Workflow & automation

Do I need to write code to build DLX orchestrations or workflows?

DLX supports the full spectrum of development approaches:

  • No-code visual design for standard lab automation scenarios
  • Low-code configuration (JavaScript, Python) for tailored integrations
  • Full custom development for complex or specialized requirements

The right approach depends on your use case — Scitara’s team will help you find the right fit.

How does DLX support AI initiatives?

DLX centralizes and harmonizes lab data across instruments and systems, creating a clean, structured data layer that feeds directly into AI/ML pipelines. Whether you’re building predictive maintenance models, review by exception, or data analysis modules, DLX ensures your input data is consistent and traceable.

Compliance & security

How does DLX handle data integrity and regulatory compliance?

DLX provides secure audit trails, role-based access controls, strong authentication, encryption, electronic signatures (where configured), and controlled workflow execution. Together, these capabilities enable traceability and accountability, and align with ALCOA++ data integrity principles, helping customers meet regulatory requirements such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11 based on their specific use and validation approach.

DLX is developed following GAMP 5 principles and is backed by Scitara’s ISO/IEC 27001:2022 ISMS certification, SOC 2 Type II attestation, and ISO 9001:2015–aligned quality framework. This provides regulated laboratories with a strong foundation to deploy, validate, and operate the platform in a compliant and inspection-ready manner.

How is my lab data kept secure?

DLX enforces encrypted communication (TLS 1.2+ in transit, AES-256 at rest), role-based access controls, and a full immutable audit log. Scitara is ISO 27001 certified and has completed SOC 2 attestation for the relevant services/platform environment supporting DLX. Scitara conducts regular security reviews and penetration testing to ensure controls remain effective as threats evolve.

Where is DLX hosted and deployed?

DLX is cloud-native and is architected using containerized services and Kubernetes-based deployment models. DLX is deployed and hosted in AWS Ireland (DUB; eu-west-1) region. Scitara offers two deployment models:

  • Multi-tenant: Shared infrastructure with complete logical isolation of each customer’s configuration and data. Cost-efficient with faster onboarding.
  • Dedicated single-tenant: Fully isolated infrastructure for customers with stricter data residency, compliance, or performance requirements.

Both models include end-to-end lifecycle management — uptime, security, compliance, upgrades, and validation — with maintenance windows planned collaboratively. GxP customers receive three dedicated environments: Development, Validation, and Production. Non-GxP customers receive two dedicated environments: Development and Production.

Support & onboarding

What support and training does Scitara provide?

Scitara provides guided onboarding, comprehensive documentation, and ongoing technical support provided by lab informatics specialists. You’ll also have access to a dedicated customer success manager (CSM) who understands your scientific and operational goals. For self-paced learning, Scitara Academy offers both foundational and specialist training programs — giving your team the knowledge to get the most out of DLX at every level.
